Finally, after much delay, I am able to tell you that Steve Fawkner will be
working on Warlords IV!
How did this come about? In the last couple of months, SSG has split into two
companies. The Melbourne team (Steve & Janeen Fawkner, Mic, Dean & Co.) have
split from SSG to form their own company, Infinite Interactive. Infinite
Interactive has taken over development of Warlords IV. The Sydney team (Ian,
Gregor, Roger & Co.) who were working on Warlords IV, will now concentrate
their efforts on their first love - wargames. The split was entirely amicable
and will be detailed in press releases later today from both SSG and Infinite
Interactive.
So, this is why there has been no news or web updates in the last couple of
months. It is also the reason why the game has been going through a major
overhaul, as Steve puts his own design ideas into everything. A Warlords IV
website should be live in two weeks (although I have been burned on my
predictions before...) A more solid forecast is that Warlords IV will ship
late this year. I believe this because Steve said so
If my math is right  then it is 3:00 AM tomorrow morning in Australia, so
it may be a few hours until Steve wakes up and checks out the board. He's been
really looking forward to talking to all of you and answering your Warlords
questions.
Lastly, I would like to thank the SSG team for all its work on Warlords IV and
for all the other great Warlords games that have been released through the
years.

Game Content Manager, Warlords IV
Well, this certainly explains a lot about what has been happening (and not happening) with W4. I guess we will see what happens next.
I deleted all the links for articles and screenshots, since they seem to be outdated with this news.
With the new company, there is a new website. It is similar to
the original site for W4, but you need to check out the new screenshots and
FAQ. There have been some major changes to this game.
2/26/03 - For those who do not visit the
official forum for Warlords 4, here is something interesting that was said

I'm working to make sure we get better marketing than we had
on WBCII. Currently, the game is going through a major overhaul: combat, hero
system, overall strategy, the strat map and the tactical map are all being
improved. The website is almost done and when it goes live, we'll have
screenshots, race and hero info, details on the combat system and just about
anything else you could want. We'll also be showing the game at E3 (the
biggest US game convention) which will be packed with press people.
